What NICD is

An additional layer of assessment.

NICD does not replace toxicological safety evaluation under EU Regulation 1223/2009 or equivalent legislation. It provides an additional assessment layer addressing neurological compatibility, sensory predictability, and cognitive accessibility.

Products applying for NICD verification must already be fully compliant with applicable cosmetics regulations before assessment begins.

NICD governs formulation, packaging, delivery systems, and all user communication — assessed as one integrated system.

"NICD recognises neurological diversity as a fundamental dimension of human variation."

Foundational Axioms

Five non-negotiable principles.

Axiom 01

Radical Functional Honesty

Communication, sensory cues, and performance must align without deception or omission. Honesty is a design safety parameter.

Axiom 02

Completion over Optimisation

A routine performed consistently delivers greater wellbeing than a perfect routine performed once and abandoned.

Axiom 03

Predictability is Non-Negotiable

Sensory and behavioural predictability is as critical as microbial and chemical stability.

Axiom 04

Complexity Requires Justification

Complexity is acceptable only when each component serves a clear purpose and does not increase neurological friction.

Axiom 05

Sensory Attributes are Functional

All sensory attributes must serve a neurological function. None exist solely for marketing appeal.

"Completion supersedes optimisation."

Assess a Product
Assessment Domains

Five measurable domains.

Products are evaluated across five defined, measurable, and auditable domains. Products must meet minimum thresholds in every domain to qualify for verification.

D1

Sensory Predictability

Consistency of sensory output across batches and over shelf life.

D2

Cognitive Friction Coefficient

Mental effort required to understand and complete the routine.

D3

Stimulation Band Fidelity

Alignment between declared and actual sensory profile.

D4

Task-Completion Architecture

Routine design for completion with minimal executive function demand.

D5

Transparent Complexity & Safety

Honesty alignment measured by the Honesty Gap Score (HGS).

Classification

Stimulation Bands.

Every verified product is classified within one of three stimulation bands — defining its dominant neurological effect on the user.

Grounding

Low-frequency sensory input designed to reduce arousal and promote neurological regulation. For high-sensitivity users and regulation-focused routines.

Clarifying

High-frequency sensory input designed to support alertness and sensory differentiation. For under-stimulation profiles and activation-focused routines.

Neutral

Minimal sensory signature designed to avoid neurological interference. Suitable for all profiles where sensory neutrality is required.

Exclusion Criteria

Prohibited design patterns.

Products relying on any of the following are automatically excluded from NICD verification.

Sensory ambiguity

Undefined or unpredictable sensory output without neurological purpose.

Precision-dependent efficacy

Products that only work when applied in a highly specific or exacting manner.

Performative complexity

Multi-step routines that serve brand narrative rather than user need.

Opaque innovation

Technology presented as innovative without transparent explanation.

Neurodiversity language without substantiation

Use of ADHD or neurodivergent language in claims without evidence or audit.

Honesty gap exceeding threshold

An HGS above defined limits constitutes automatic exclusion.
